Modify objects in Vortex Studio Editor

I often get asked whether it’s possible to modify the properties of multiple objects in a single operation, such as enabling or disabling the Receive Shadows checkboxes on all the graphic nodes of a model. The Vortex Studio Editor provides a means to do this—the funnel icon at the upper right corner of the Explorer window.

Clicking on the funnel expands the filter menu. Its content is dynamically adjusted to the content of the document currently examined. The filter is available in every document type, whether you are working on a mechanism, a scene or a graphics gallery, and it only filters items in the Explorer window (the 3D Viewport will remain unchanged). Note that the filtering menu and the text filter at the top of the panel are additive.

When active, the filter will expand the hierarchy to reflect your choice(s); when the filtering is removed, the hierarchy returns to its previous state. A filter selection can be applied independently to different documents. It is not cleared when changing tabs, but neither is it saved when the Editor is closed.

Once only the desired objects are listed in the Explorer window, you can select one or more of them. To multi-select, press Shift in addition to the left mouse button for a consecutive list of objects, or press Ctrl in addition to the left mouse button for individual picks. You can then apply changes in the Properties window. If the selected parameter is shared by all selected objects, it will change for all of them.

This quick trick can help you save a lot of time over the course of a project!
