ZPMC Partners with CM Labs to Develop Training Simulators for Remote Desk-Controlled STS Cranes

CM Labs Simulations Inc., the leading global port crane simulation-based training solution provider, announced today that it has cooperated with ZPMC on developing simulation-based operator training for its remote desk-controlled ship-to-shore (STS) cranes. The first client for this innovative new training product will be the Ports of Auckland in New Zealand.

ZPMC is the world’s largest manufacturer of cranes and large steel structures, with a high global market share for the international STS port crane market. CM Labs’ Vortex® simulator will integrate ZPMC’s actual remote control system. This will expose trainees to crane operations and the control room environment just like real operations. This includes the simulation of all crane functions, camera displays, automated safety functions, as well as the terminal’s container management system.

The first remote desk-controlled crane training simulator will be installed at Ports of Auckland (POAL) to train the terminal’s operators ahead of delivery of the ZPMC cranes later in 2018.

Vortex simulators objectively track and capture operating metrics such as moves per hour and collisions. From the Instructor Operating Station, trainers can launch exercises to train on both manual and semi-automated controls, and inject faults such as snags, corner cast failures, inclement weather or disabled cameras. The simulator will give ZPMC clients the opportunity to prepare for operations well ahead of crane handover.
