CM Labs Simulations, developer of Vortex® training simulators, has expanded its Forestry product line with the release of the Harvester Training Pack. Designed in collaboration with industry experts, both from the perspective of the curriculum as well as machine design and behavior, it’s the only solution on the market that simulates the harvesting cycle in detail so operators learn to proficiently control the felling direction, delimb a tree, and cut-to-length based on requested specs.
“Not only is the Harvester an expensive piece of equipment, it can be quite complex and dangerous, so providing the user with a detailed simulation of the harvesting cycle helps to ensure safe and efficient operations.” says Julien Richer-Lanciault, Product Manager at CM Labs. “Our forestry line is built on the same engineering-grade software as all our other products so operators get a true feel for the real thing.”
Machine specifications provided by Tigercat Industries modeled within CM Labs’ award-winning software ensures that everything from the Harvester’s hydraulics system, engine behavior, crane operation as well as movement of the harvester head is accurately replicated. This results in a training solution that delivers the most transferable operator skills anywhere, outside the real equipment.
From control familiarization to advance techniques, trainees progress through an industry-approved curriculum that facilitates mastery of the machine. The exercises were developed through consultations with training institutions and ensure operators acquire the right skills and techniques relevant to the job. The Harvester Simulator Training Pack allows new operators to safely manage the harvesting cycle while ensuring machine stability in the roughest terrains.
A large immersive environment fully equipped with multiple tree species that includes night-time operations as well as different weather conditions like fog, rain, or snow provides trainees a realistic lens into the actual work setting. Built-in performance metrics track everything from fuel consumption, efficiency cutting trees, and safety violations. Customizable scoring allows users to weight each metric for objective and standardized evaluation.
The Harvester along with the Forwarder Training Pack are sold in a bundle and provide training organizations with comprehensive education for forestry operators — from roadwork with CM Labs’ Earthmoving Training Packs, and now, cutting and moving timber. Both training packs currently run on CM Labs’ desktop Vortex Edge Plus and the motion-enabled Vortex Edge Max simulators.
