Construction Equipment Simulators
Construction equipment simulators have been used for operator training in one way or another since the mid-1990s. However, it’s only in the last decade or so that the life-like degree of realism provided by industrial aerospace simulators has come to the construction industry.
Now, construction crane and heavy equipment simulators can provide an extraordinarily realistic simulation of machines, with immersive experiences recreating the experience of excavating dirt and lifting loads, in tandem with training content that develops operator skills far beyond basic controls familiarisation.
As with all technology purchases, however, it’s easy to get sidetracked by bells, whistles, and marketing hype.
The fact is, not all simulators are created equal. That’s why it’s important to be in a position to determine exactly what makes one simulator better for you rather than another. This will ensure that you are getting the best tool for your trainers, trainees, and other stakeholders. It will also put you in a much stronger position when it comes to making a business case for acquiring a simulator, and achieving internal “buy-in” for using it as a training tool.
