MathEngine Launches New Company Critical Mass Labs; Strategic
Relationship Formed
March 1, 2001 – Oxford, England — MathEngine
plc is pleased to announce the launch of Critical Mass Labs, a
company that will supply simulation software and consulting services
to the visual simulation industry. MathEngine has established this
latest company to provide a targeted product and service focus and
accelerate its global reach to new business opportunities.
Critical Mass Labs has a team of expert developers and engineers
with extensive knowledge of dynamics and simulation, and it is well
positioned to provide solutions to markets such as simulation
training, robotics and medical research.
Robert Weldon, will drive the expansion of Critical Mass Labs as
the company’s Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Weldon was the former
General Manager of MathEngine Canada. “I
am excited by the opportunity to lead this new
company”, says Mr. Weldon. “The simulation market is ready to explode, as
the cost of equipment drops and software improves. Applications
allowing for computer-based training, and prototyping are changing
the way engineers work and learn. The team at Critical Mass Labs has
a long history of providing outstanding technology and is one of the
greatest assets to driving this business forward”.
Claude Lacoursiere has been appointed as the Chief Technology
Officer and will lead technical innovation at Critical Mass
Labs. Mr. Lacoursiere brings his experience from MathEngine Canada,
where he was instrumental in the design and development of new
real-time simulation algorithms.
Critical Mass Labs has many customers already using the
technology. NASA Ames Research Center is using the technology to
develop robot simulations for possible deployment in future Mars
exploration programs. Another, is Tom Ray, a renowned professor at
the University of Oklahoma. “I was pleased
that I could rely on the software to perform the physics behind the
movement of my objects so that I could concentrate on the evolution
and analysis of my project”, says Mr. Ray, “I am looking forward to working with Critical
Mass Labs as they push the technology to new
limits”.
MathEngine will continue to be part of this success as a
shareholder and strategic ally of Critical Mass Labs. “MathEngine’s technology is set to play an
important part in many different markets”, notes
MathEngine CEO Phil Rogers. “These diverse
industries require different products and approaches to sales and
marketing. Our strategy addresses this through spinning-out
companies, which we encourage to develop their own business models,
products and brands. With exciting technology, new products, and
customers already signed up, Critical Mass Labs are positioned, as
are our other spin-out companies, to be a leader in its
market”. MathEngine and Critical Mass Labs will
continue to work together on future initiatives in simulation
technology.
MathEngine’s goal is to supply world-leading technology, products
and services to interactive media application developments and
directly to device manufacturers. The creation of market-focused
Critical Mass Labs ensures that the visual simulation market will be
supplied with the best possible products and services. MathEngine’s
ventures in education and virtual prototyping are proving to be
resounding successes and it is successfully licensing its technology
directly in the entertainment space.
