Press Release

CMLabs and Contex Engineering International, Inc. partner to deliver vehicle simulators to foreign military.

Partnership serves to establish CMLabs as a significant provider of high-fidelity, physic-based vehicle dynamics for simulator training.

December 6, 2004 – Orlando, FL — CMLabs, the leading supplier of real-time physics-based simulation software and services, is pleased to announce today a partnership with CONTEX Engineering International, Inc. to deliver a driver trainer for the M-113 armored personnel carrier. CMLabs developed and implemented complete vehicle dynamics models.

The partnership between CMLabs and CONTEX Engineering International, Inc. has produced an affordable, high-fidelity, fixed-based simulator that will be used by a foreign military to train drivers in safe operation and handling of the M-113 armored personnel carrier. The delivery will include over 30 fixed based simulators to the foreign government that will be fielded for combat training operations in 2005.

CMLabs has contributed a customized multi-body dynamics model that combines accurate vehicle dynamics, collision detection and force reaction. The system is based on CMLabs COTS software Vortex, and incorporates high-fidelity track models, variable terrain and multiple soil models, and is able to replicate maneuverability in shallow water, off-road travel over rough terrain and high-speed operation on smooth roads. In addition, the simulator has been designed to replicate vehicle function in over a dozen malfunctions including brake failure, engine stall, axle turning failure and track displacement. All behavior has been validated against actual vehicle performance to ensure to ensure accuracy and training effectiveness.

"This is an important delivery for CMLabs," states CEO Robert Weldon. "It serves to establish CMLabs as a significant and reliable provider of physics-based software and services, and takes advantage of our unique expertise in high-fidelity real-time vehicle simulation."

Says Dr. Jerry Sun, Vice President of CONTEX Engineering International, Inc.: "CMLabs was a major contributor to this project. The fidelity of the vehicle’s driving is exceptional and maps exactly to the behavior of the actual vehicle. CMLabs has been a valuable partner in the delivery of these simulators."

CONTEX Engineering International, Inc. will unveil both a full motion-based tank gunner simulator and a fixed-based tank driver trainer at I/ITSEC 2004. Please visit booth #2002.
