Seminar
"Design, applications, and open problems
of a physics simulation engine"
Dr. Marek Teichmann
Abstract
Realtime constraint rigid body simulation is increasingly used in industry for interactive training and for design evaluation and testing, at a time when the simulation of sufficiently complex systems at a increasing level of realism is becoming feasible. We give an overview of the internals structure of a real-time physics simulation engine with collision detection, discuss some issues in maintaining interactive performance with complex dynamical systems and some of our work and open problems in addressing those issues such as parallelization. We also show a number of applications and issues encountered in vehicle simulation, robotics and control, including robot grasping. All along we mention some interesting open problems in dynamics solvers and collision detection algorithms.
